The International Enterprise in Action (IEiA) is a three-day event that comprises two international business challenges for young people aged 16-19 (The Global Enterprise Challenge - GEC and the FedEx/JA International Trade Challenge – ITC).

The IEiA is hosted by Massey University (as the Principal Sponsor) at their Albany campus. Massey University is joined by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, Auckland City Council and North Shore City Council as a supporting sponsor.

Auckland-based businesses support a team of students throughout the three days, as mentors and corporate hosts.

In 2010, DraftFCB team were named New Zealand winners, Australia were deserving winners of the International Global Enterprise Challenge Competition

Global Enterprise Challenge

The Global Enterprise Challenge is a 24-hour enterprise competition for young people aged 16-19. The competition gives students the opportunity to work with and compete internationally with other entrepreneurs and fosters entrepreneurial attitudes.

The GEC has been operating for ten years and the 2008 event saw 19 countries and over 1,000 students participating.

Students from around the country who are participating in the Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme are selected to compete for their presentation to  represent New Zealand in the challenge.

The challenge is issued “live” in June each year, and New Zealand teams compete at Massey University’s Albany Campus. Auckland-based businesses host and mentor a team of students during the event and commit approximately two and a half days of their time and expertise to their team.

The challenge is promoted internationally via the Careers Scotland website, and is web streamed live to participating countries. New Zealand students compete head-to-head internationally with other entrepreneurs and the event fosters skills, attitudes and understandings related to international entrepreneurship and business development.

International Trade Challenge 2010

The International Trade Challenge provides YES Students with the opportunity to meet other students from Asia Pacific countries. In the International Trade Challenge, students will work in teams to create Market entry-strategy plans for a defined product and country.

Students will gain firsthand experience of world trade; enhance their knowledge of product distribution, promotion, and sales; and develop traits of competition, teamwork, risk-taking, and self-confidence. This involvement brings heightened awareness about the rewards and benefits of business and entrepreneurship education as an avenue for helping today’s youth achieve their fullest potential and prepares them to become tomorrow’s leaders in our global society.

Who is eligible to participate 2010 FedEx/Junior Achievement International Trade Challenge?
Six students who have participated in the 2010 International Enterprise in Action event will be chosen to represent New Zealand in the competition.
